Goals
From the time I was very young goal setting has been a part of my life. Thinking about the future and planning is part of the culture here. Good planning is also in the DNA of successful companies big and small. So I am taking the next 5 days and clearing my head and my desk of work and work related stuff. A clean slate if you will. To write down and clarify my ONE goal for 2012.
I set one, just one goal. A single personal attribute that I want to hone. That will require me to focus on 10% of just 3 things. What the 3 things are is not important to share, what is important is the 10%.
Here is why; too many goals people set are not really goals but tasks. Goals are made up of tasks, but a task in itself if not a goal. A goal is about change or a destination, something or someplace different than where you are. The 10% is the center of that target, and nothing more. If a task is not focused on the center it is a not worth my time. I want 100% of my effort to hit the 10% of what matters. I want to move the needle.
First task to goal one, clear out all the useless distractions.
BTW. One of my 3 goals for 2011 was to write every day. That goal is now complete.
