“Founders & importance of friends” by Om Malik
Both Om and Mark have made great points.
The idea that it is lonely at the top is very applicable to founders. All that friends, family and love ones can do is offer support to us crazy ass founders who are dumb enough to venture into the unknown, trailblazing new roads.
Yet that is the problem, it is unknown. Friend and family want to be supportive and they do try, but it is hard to support that what they don’t know or understand. Other founders can relate in ways because they have also been insane enough to be a trailblazer. Their own trail, is similar but different.
Friend are friends. They will offer a beer, an ear and a hand when they can. A small handful of true friends is all founders really need. We founder just need to enjoy the roller-coaster of a ride that is a startup.
